Compare a trip or regular commute using your own route distance, measured vehicle economy, pump price and fare quotes. Include parking, tolls and shared-trip arrangements separately.

Calculate fuel for a measured distance
Include the return journey if your distance is one way. Use mileage measured over representative driving conditions. Keep km/L separate from L/100 km; the formulas differ, and neither can be substituted for the other.
Worksheet: Litres needed = distance in km ÷ economy in km/L.
Example: calculate fuel for a measured distance
A 60 km return trip at 15 km/L needs 4 litres. At an entered PKR 280 per litre, fuel cost is PKR 1,120. These are fictional inputs, not a current fuel-price quotation.
Compare a full commute period
Multiply a return-day cost by the actual travel days. Add quoted parking, tolls and other costs on their own frequency. For shared trips, divide only the costs the travellers agree to share. Vehicle ownership and depreciation require additional assumptions.
Worksheet: Period commute cost = return-day cost × travel days + other period costs.
Example: compare a full commute period
A PKR 400 return fare for 22 travel days costs PKR 8,800. A weekly or monthly pass must be compared using its actual validity and the journeys it covers.
Prepare your inputs before comparing results
- Choose one task and one planning period.
- Record the measurement units and the source and date of each quotation.
- Separate quantities used, quantities purchased and any remainder.
- List costs included in the estimate and costs excluded from it.
- Recheck the result when quantities, prices or circumstances change.
