Assumptions and How This Is Calculated

Planned use = people × daily use × days. Subtract stock, keeping at least zero. Whole packs and increments round upward; loose count purchases round to whole pieces. List and waste tasks use known quantities.

Compatible units and currency changes retain exact values. Displayed money rounds half-up to two decimals. Waste is within goods cost; delivery is added once in plan/budget tasks.

Limits: 1 to 100 people, 0 to 366 days, 50 items, 1,000,000 base units per quantity, daily use 100 per person, money equivalent to PKR 1 trillion. See the guide for formulas and limitations.

Family Ration Calculator: Quantities and Grocery Budget Guide

Plan grocery quantities, costs and stock from your measurements. A rashan list is the household supplies you plan to buy. This example is a partial basket, not a complete monthly food budget.

Which Ration Planning Task Should You Choose?

Choose quantity planning to turn measured daily use into a shopping list. Choose shopping-list costing to price known quantities without estimating consumption.

Choose stock duration to estimate days of supply, or pack counts to round a known shortage into packages. Choose waste valuation to price a measured or hypothetical wasted share.

How Do You Calculate a Household Ration List?

  1. Choose a task: measured-use planning or known-quantity costing.
  2. Keep PKR or select another currency to convert monetary values using dated reference rates.
  3. Open an item. Check Measurement Unit and Buy As. Compatible units convert; different measurement types require fresh values.
  4. Choose unit or pack pricing and enter your actual shop price.
  5. Check usable stock, package size and waste scenario. Stock duration needs no price.
  6. Open Delivery, Spending Limit And Examples for optional settings. Review, copy, print, download or share the result.

How Are Ration Quantities and Costs Calculated?

Calculate Planned Use and Purchase Shortage

Planned use equals people × daily use per person × days. Purchase shortage equals planned use minus usable stock, with a minimum of zero.

Pack count is shortage divided by pack size, rounded upward. Loose buying keeps the shortage except counts round to whole pieces. Buying increments round to your chosen increment.

Calculate Pack Cost, Delivery and Waste Value

Purchase quantity equals pack count × pack size. With unit pricing, item cost equals purchase quantity × unit price. Whole-pack cost equals pack count × pack price. Loose cost equals quantity × (pack price ÷ pack size). A loose 3 kg purchase at 500 per 5 kg costs 300 in the same currency.

Add all item costs, then add Delivery once for the basket total. Current stock cover divides usable stock by daily household use before purchasing.

Waste value multiplies the purchase cost by the entered Waste Scenario percentage. It does not increase the purchase quantity or promise recoverable savings.

The monthly example allocates PKR Rs 6,250.00 across goods and delivery. Its quantities stay fixed; monetary labels follow your currency.

How Much Does the Monthly Example Basket Cost?

The monthly three-item example costs PKR Rs 6,250.00 for four people over thirty days. All prices and consumption amounts are illustrative inputs, not recommended portions or current market quotes.

Atta use is 0.15 kg per person daily, requiring 18 kg overall. Subtracting 3 kg stock leaves 15 kg, covered by three 5 kg packs.

Rice use is 0.08 kg per person daily, requiring 9.6 kg overall. After 1.6 kg stock, an 8 kg shortage needs two 5 kg packs.

Oil use is 0.025 litres per person daily, requiring 3 litres overall. After 1 litre stock, two 1 litre packs cover the remaining shortage.

The goods subtotal is PKR Rs 6,100, and delivery brings it to PKR Rs 6,250. A five-percent waste scenario values waste at PKR Rs 305 within the goods subtotal.

Rice shortage is 8 kg, purchase quantity is 10 kg, and pack surplus is 2 kg. Whole-pack buying adds 2 kg above this example’s rice shortage. Surplus is extra purchased stock, not a separate fee.

How Do You Read the Shopping Results?

Basket total equals goods subtotal plus delivery. Budget remaining equals your optional spending limit minus the total; a negative balance means the basket exceeds that limit.

Pack surplus is the purchase above your shortage. Closing stock is existing stock plus purchases minus planned use. Ten kilograms of stock less 4.2 kg use leaves 5.8 kg, even without buying.

The flour line plans 18 kg, subtracts 3 kg stock and buys 15 kg. Other basket items have their own inputs.

How Does a Weekly Grocery Plan Differ?

The weekly example costs PKR Rs 880.00 for two people over seven days. It has no delivery charge. Atta needs 2.1 kg overall, with 1 kg already in stock.

The 1.1 kg atta shortage needs two 1 kg packs at PKR Rs 140/kg. Rice needs 1.12 kg, rounded to two 1 kg packs at PKR Rs 300/kg.

How Long Will Your Existing Ration Stock Last?

Stock cover equals usable stock divided by daily household use. Four people using 0.15 kg of atta each daily consume 0.6 kg per day. Their 10 kg stock lasts about 16.667 days.

Over seven days, 4.2 kg use leaves 5.8 kg stock without buying. Zero daily use has no finite exhaustion time. Stock duration needs no price.

How Do You Avoid Quantity and Price Entry Errors?

Likewise, do not mix litres and kilograms without a reliable density conversion. Changing from mass to volume clears quantities and price for re-entry. The planner never infers liquid weight from volume without density.

Check whether the displayed shop price describes one unit or one package. Choose Whole Pack under Price Is Per when entering a package price. The calculator derives its unit price from your entered pack quantity.

For daily use per person, divide recorded weekly household use by seven, then by people. Add missing purchases such as pulses, dairy, vegetables, tea and sugar. Include cleaning supplies separately when planning a wider household budget.

How Do Currency and Buying Rules Work?

PKR is the default, followed by INR, USD, GBP, EUR, SAR and AUD. Currency changes convert monetary inputs, outputs, exports and examples.

Reference exchange rates are dated 4 November 2026 and work offline. They are not bank quotes or grocery prices.

Currency round trips preserve exact reference values despite rounded input displays.

For count units, purchases and stock represent whole pieces, including fractional dozens that equal whole pieces. A change between mass, volume, and counts needs new values.

The optional spending limit compares your basket total against your chosen amount in planning and budgeting modes.

What Are the Ration Calculator’s Limits?

The ration planner assumes constant daily use and the prices you enter. It cannot predict guests, price changes or unavailable stock. Add each item your household buys, such as pulses, tea, sugar or salt.

Exact fractions preserve arithmetic. All seven currencies display totals rounded half-up to two decimals; converted inputs retain precision.

Totals use unrounded costs. Quantities display nine decimals; stock cover three.

Monthly Rashan List and Grocery Budget FAQs

How Do I Price a Monthly Rashan List Without Daily Use?

Choose Cost A Known Shopping List and enter your purchase quantities; daily use is not required.

How Much Ration Does a Family of Four Need?

Enter your household’s measured daily use and choose four people. Needs depend on the foods and quantities your household consumes. The three-item example does not define a complete diet or standard family ration.

Should I Choose Loose Rice or Whole Packs?

Choose Exact Loose Quantity for unrestricted loose buying, or Buying Increments for a fixed selling increment. Use Whole Packs only when you must buy complete packages.

Why Is My Purchase Larger than the Ration Shortage?

Whole-pack buying rounds the shortage upward to complete packs. An 8 kg rice shortage needs two 5 kg packs, leaving 2 kg surplus. Choose loose buying when the seller allows the exact shortage.

Does the PKR Ration Budget Use Today’s Grocery Prices?

No. Enter prices from your own shop or receipt. Currency changes convert money using the displayed reference-rate date. They do not update grocery prices, change physical quantities or guarantee a bank rate.

Does a Five-Percent Waste Scenario Increase My Bill?

No. Waste value is part of the purchased goods cost. A five-percent scenario values that share of your item costs. It does not add five percent to the bill or increase purchase quantities.
